History[]
• In January, 1793, Jean Francois and Biassou occupied this settlement. Laveaux marched against them from the Cape; and Lieutenant-Colonel Nulty removed the position. In October 1801, the partisans of Moïse, driven from Marmelade by Toussaint Louverture, took refuge in Soufrière. Toussaint knocked them over. In December 1802, Petit Noel Prière, leader of bands in revolt against Leclerc, occupied Morne Balancé and Soufrière. Four hundred men of the 4th and 7th colonial demi-brigades overwhelmed him. When Pétion took up arms against the French in Haut-du-Cap, Petit Noel Prière left Morne Balancé, and threatened to battle him on the Héricourt plantation. Pétion succeeded in winning it.
