History[]
• The Rivière de Fer-à-Cheval (English: Horseshoe River) of the commune of Mirebalais, in the form of a fortress, is magnified by the waters of Gascogne and Colline before being drained into the Artibonite. The mouth is a kilometer upstream from the center of Mirebalais. An arm of Fer-à-Cheval is the Rivière des Indiens with the Riviere Chaud.
• On February 20, 1805, the Emperor Dessalines, going to invade the eastern part, ordered the 3rd demi-brigade and his cavalry to take up post on the Désvarieux plantation located in this rural section.
• In June 1809, the general Gérin crossed the Fer-a-Cheval to cross the Artibonite. The strong waters of the river stopped the march of Petion's troops, which were then directed to the Crète Brulée.
• The post Ducas Hippolytus wrote to Frederique Marcelin in 1865 that this river, so poorly named, though wrongly, is super-strong.
The Gentilhomme habitation, located in the area of Sarazin, commune of Mirebalais, has been known for its substantial agricultural production, spanning 30 parcels of land rented by the government from private individuals.
