Starting Point: Croix-des-Missions Intersection
Route Nationale 8 officially begins at the Croix-des-Missions intersection, located just north of the Croix-des-Missions Bridge. This junction is where RN8 meets Route Nationale 1 and Route Nationale 3, providing access to other major routes connecting different regions of Haiti. From here, RN8 heads east, marking the start of the route toward the Dominican Republic border.
Croix-des-Missions to Fonds Parisien
Heading northeast, RN8 passes through both suburban and rural areas, with road conditions generally fair but sometimes rough. While sections of the road are paved, there are areas where the surface can be uneven, particularly in rural zones. The highway serves as an important connector between various small towns, offering access to local markets and communities. At Fonds Parisien, RN8 intersects with Route 801, which leads towards Fonds-Verrettes and the Anse-à-Pitres border crossing.
Fonds Parisien to the Dominican Border (Malpasse)
Continuing eastward, RN8 crosses more rural landscapes and approaches the village of Malpasse, where the highway reaches the border with the Dominican Republic. At this point, RN8 intersects with Route 48, which leads directly to the border post. The road conditions improve as the route nears the border, but some sections, especially in rural areas, may still be bumpy due to heavy traffic and seasonal weather effects.
