Route Nationale 3

Route Nationale 3 (RN-3) is a north–south Interdepartmental Highway running through the Central Plateau of Haiti. It has two southern termini in Croix-des-Bouquets, in the Ouest Department; one at the intersection with RN1, Bon Repos and the other at the intersection with RN8. Its northern terminus is at Carrefour La Mort in Cap-Haïtien, where it intersects with RN6, the main highway of the Northeast Corridor, connecting Cap-Haïtien via Fort-Liberté and Ouanaminthe to the Dominican Republic. The major metropolitan areas that RN3 connects to include Hinche and Mirebalais in the Centre and Saint-Raphael in the North.

RN3 is the longest north–south Highway in Haiti. Route Nationale 3 largely traces the paths created down the length of the Central Mountains by migrating animals, native Indians, and early settlers. It also follows a major corridor for troop movements during the War. These trails and roadways gradually evolved into Haiti Route Nationale 3. Being mostly rural, it is ofen used as a bypass of the busier Route Nationale 1 to the west.

The Central Road provides an alternative route between Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haïtien through the east-central part of the country, which serves the country's main hydroelectric scheme (at Peligre) and the agricultural area centered on Hinche.
