Route Departementale 301 (RD-301) is an east–west departmental highway in Haiti that runs for approximately 52 kilometers (30 miles) through the Centre Department between Mirebalais and Belladère. The road’s western terminus is at Route Nationale 3 (RN-3) in Mirebalais, a major junction linking the Central Plateau to Port-au-Prince. Its eastern terminus is at the Belladère border crossing, where it connects directly to DR Highway 2 in Comendador, just west of the Haiti–Dominican Republic frontier.
About[]
RD-301 forms the main interior corridor linking the lower Central Plateau to the Belladère frontier, threading through a chain of rural settlements that depend heavily on it for mobility, commerce, and access to services. After leaving Mirebalais, the highway passes through agricultural zones and small market clusters before reaching Lascahobas, the primary midpoint and service center along the route. Beyond Lascahobas, the road enters the rugged uplands of Petit-Fond, Mare Rouge, and Thoman, where steep grades, rocky soil, and drainage issues contribute to the well-known difficulty of this section—described in Le Nouvelliste as “un calvaire mais une voie obligée” for residents and traders alike.
The road’s condition varies significantly, with scattered paved segments interspersed with long unpaved stretches that become rutted or eroded during heavy rains. Despite this, Route 301 remains indispensable for transporting farm goods, supporting local markets, and enabling daily cross-border travel. The corridor also appears regularly in humanitarian reporting, especially during periods of population movement or border disruption, underscoring its importance as one of the few reliable overland routes between the interior of Haiti and the Dominican Republic’s Elías Piña/Comendador region.

Route Description[]
Las Cahobas
RD-301 begins at the Carrefour Péligre roundabout in Mirebalais, branching east from the RN-3 and immediately descending into the rural outskirts of the town. The highway follows a gently rolling landscape as it heads toward Sarazin and Savanne-la-Coupe, passing scattered homes, churches, and small farming plots along the Artibonite River basin.
Beyond Sarazin, the road continues east through Chambrun, Bas-Pierrot, and Savanne-Longue, remaining mostly unpaved but heavily traveled by motos, tap-taps, and agricultural trucks. The corridor gradually gains elevation as it approaches Dini and Flande, where the terrain becomes hillier and the route threads between ridges and shallow ravines.
Approaching La Couline, RD-301 swings northeast and enters the wider bowl of Lascahobas, becoming the commune’s main spine and marketplace corridor. After leaving the town center, the highway begins a more rugged climb through Petit-Fond, a narrow and weather-worn section known for exposed rock, runoff channels, and tight curves that slow traffic during the rainy season. East of Petit-Fond, the road continues into the higher, cooler uplands of Mare Rouge, then crosses the ridgeline above Thoman, offering broad views of the frontier basin.
From Thoman, RD-301 curves southeast toward Croix-Fer, where it joins the final approach into Belladère. The road enters the commune along Rue Principale, lined with small shops, residences, and public services, before continuing east through Carizal to the border facilities. RD-301 terminates at the Belladère crossing, where it connects directly to DR Highway 2 for travel into Comendador, Elías Piña, and the interior of the Dominican Republic.
