Haiti Local

Route Communale 700-B is an east–west communal road in the Grand'Anse Department of Haiti, running approximately 27.3 kilometers (17.0 mi) from the town of Abricots to the center of Jérémie. Although classified as a communal route, RC 700B functions as the principal coastal road connecting several isolated rural communities to Jérémie, the administrative and economic capital of the department. The route serves as a lifeline for regional commerce, agriculture, and transportation in the Jérémie Arrondissement, and offers scenic views of Haiti’s rugged coastline.

Route description[]

Route 700-B begins in the center of Abricots, at the intersection of Rue Saint-Victor, just steps from the town square and seafront. The road ascends gradually through hillside neighborhoods before entering a more rural and forested stretch. It winds through the coastal enclave of Anse du Clerc, skirting cliffs and offering sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea.

Continuing eastward, the road enters the commune of Bonbon, where it takes the name Route de Bonbon. Here, Route 700-B serves as the town’s main thoroughfare, lined with small shops, schools, and the local health center. Exiting Bonbon, the route hugs the coastline as it approaches Anse d’Azur, a beachside village with fishing activity and small homesteads.

After passing Anse d’Azur, the road continues eastward through steep terrain and enters the outskirts of Jérémie. It becomes Route Nan Lundy near Jérémie Airport, serving as a key connector between the rural periphery and the urban center. This stretch of the road begins to narrow, with increased residential development and roadside vendors.

Approximately 5.2 kilometers past the airport, near Anse à Trouette, Route 700-B crosses a small ravine and executes a sharp right–left jog. At this point, the route changes designation to Rue Source Dommage, winding through dense neighborhoods on its final approach into downtown Jérémie.

Once downtown, the route transitions into Rue Abbé Huet after bearing right, and then quickly turns left onto Rue Hortensius Merlet. One block later, Route 700-B reaches its eastern terminus at Place Alexandre Dumas, a central plaza, where RC 700B ends and RD-72 begins.
