Route Communale 102-A (RC 102-A) is a 41-kilometre (25 mi) local road in northwestern Haiti, connecting the communes of Anse-Rouge in the Artibonite Department and Jean-Rabel in the Northwest Department. The route begins at the intersection with Route 102 in Anse-Rouge and extends northward, passing through several rural communities before reaching Route 52 in Jean-Rabel.
The route maintains a mostly single-lane configuration, with intermittent widening near village centers. Drainage ditches and small concrete bridges cross minor streams along the way. The road is mostly gravel past the town, and during the rainy season, small potholes and mud patches can slow travel, though locals navigate them with ease.
Route description[]
Route 102-A begins in the town center, at the intersection with Route 102. The road heads north along Rue L'Arbre, a narrow street lined with small homes and local shops. Shortly afterward, it crosses the Rivière Anse Coudre, where a modest bridge offers a glimpse of the surrounding farmland and grazing livestock.
Continuing past the Anse-Rouge Airport, the terrain gradually becomes hillier, with the road winding between fields and scattered hamlets. About 7 km (4 mi) from the start, the route reaches the Jean-Rabel municipal boundary, entering the 3rd section, Vielle Hatte, where the hills rise a bit more and the vegetation becomes denser. The road here narrows in places, requiring careful navigation as it curves along ridges and small ravines.
102-A then runs alongside the Ravine Port-a-Piment, offering occasional views of terraces and farms tucked into the hillsides. At La Réserve, the road bends to parallel the Rivière Doucet, moving toward Jean-Louis, where the river flows into the larger Rivière Jean-Rabel. The route crosses this river via a small bridge and follows the riverbank northward, climbing gentle inclines and weaving through clusters of houses and roadside markets.
In the final stretch, the road merges onto Route Bazin, descending gently toward Downtown Jean-Rabel. The surroundings transition to a denser townscape, with narrow streets, shops, and local businesses leading toward the commune’s town center. Technically, Route 102-A terminates across the river from the heart of the town, at a T-intersection with Route 52. From this junction, one branch crosses the bridge and continues into the town center along Rue Charlemagne Péralte (52 West), the main corridor for local commerce and municipal services. The other branch, known locally as Rue Lot Bo Dlo (52 East), extends northward before turning east, providing access to the surrounding rural communities and agricultural areas.
