The Rivière Bretelle is a 8.0-mile-long (13 km) river in the commune of Cabaret, located in the Western Department of Haiti. Its name derives from the French word "Bretelle", which translates to "Ramp."
Geography[]
The Bretelle River lies to the northwest of Port-au-Prince and flows approximately parallel to the lower portions of the Rivière Torcelle. The river flows from the base of Morne Pain du Sucre (Sugarloaf Mountain) and travels through the Cabaret-area communities of Source Matelas, Boucassin, and Cocombre. The river joins the coastal area before passing under Route Nationale 1 at the Village de la Transformation, right next to the Cabaret Town Center. The river turns southward, draining into the Port-au-Prince Bay.
