History[]

Platana was originally the first rural section of the municipality of Maïssade, district of Hinche. It was was subdivided in 1875, giving rise to the section of Marmont.

  • In 1802, Rochambeau, starting from St Michel between the

Ravine Couleuvre, passed Platana.

  • In 1804, the State granted Mr. Rodolphe Gardère the copper mines in this rural section. This concession had not been executed was annulled by an Order of President Dartiguenave dated January 13, 1918.

The United Hayti Corporation has published a PLATANAS prospectus, estimating the extent of its mining concession with 36,000 acres of copper and gold mines and 120,000 acres of coal mines.
