Meet the municipalities[]
Plaisance🏛️ (69,583) This rural city, located in the Three Rivers' Valley of northern Haiti, is located on the crest of a mountain. It was considered the vacation spot of the rich planters of Cap-Haitien because of its cool climate, its many rivers, and the richness of its flora and fauna. It was also the refuge of great maroon chiefs during the war of Haiti's independence. The local economy is based on agriculture (sugar cane, cocoa, and yams) and trade. Many other businesses exist such as soft drink vending, bakeries, dry cleaning, and ironworking. A vital market is also found serving the Northern Plain and the Artibonite. |
Pilate (54,040) Made up of forests, foothills, a dozen rivers, fifty water sources, and a mild climate, this isolated municipality is one of the oldest and richest in the country in natural resources. It has been considered the breadbasket of the Northern Department. With its large number of children, this town was the key venue for Childrens' Rights Day in 2011. The local economy is largely supported by agriculture (coffee, cocoa, yams, and fruit) and trade. |
