About[]
It's namesake is from Grand-Harpon, a mountain of the borough of Jacmel. One of the limits of this borough descends by the mountain of Grand-Harpon to the source of the Rivière-Gauche. Rivière Gauche ("Left River"), one of the tributaries of the Grande Rivière de Jacmel, comes from the heights of the Grand-Harpon.
History[]
On March 12, 1800, during the evacuation of Jacmel, part of the garrison became separated at night while resting in the woods near the Benard plantation. From there, they proceeded to the Harpon on the afternoon of the 14th at 5 o'clock.
In 1840, the Fond de Boudin section was incorporated into this area. At that time, it comprised 169 plantations, which were cultivated with coffee and food crops, all in satisfactory condition.
