History[]

Formerly known as Manzanillo, due to its main population center near the Bay of Manzanillo, the settlement was elevated to the municipal seat in 1948, changing its name a year later to become Pepillo Salcedo, in honor of the President of the Republic, José Antonio Salcedo.

Geography[]

According to the census bureau, the town has a land area of 149.32 square kilometers (57.65 square miles). The municipality of Monte Cristi borders it on the east, the town of Dajabón borders it on the south, the Haitian town of Ferrier borders it on the west, and the Bay of Manzanillo borders it on the northwest.
