Ouanaminthe⭐ (106,129) This city, a border town in the country's far northeast, enjoys close ties to the Dominican Republic. Furthermore, there are many large villages on the road between here and Cap-Haitien. The two cities form a combined international metropolitan area of over 750,000 people, constituting the largest bilingual and binational work force in Hispaniola. The local economy is based on trade, commerce, and some agriculture (groundnuts and maize). It is the Northeast Department's economic center and most populous city.
Capotille(19,382) This agricultural border town specializes in groundnut production. Its weekly rural market supplies more than a quarter of the country's peanuts. The local economy is based on agriculture (groundnuts, cassava, and market crops), livestock, and trade. It shares an international border with the Dominican Republic.
Mont-Organisé(20,973) Lying close to the DR border, coffee-growing is a booming business this small town of 20,000. Because it is located within the mountain ranges, there are pockets of gold and limestone that can be found throughout. However, it is mostly conducted by US firms, therefore none of it has been used to the benefit of the country of Haiti or its inhabitants. The local economy is based on agriculture (coffee, lime, and pepper) and trade. Education plays a big role here.
