Haiti Local

Montagne La Voute is the sixth communal section of Jacmel. Situated around rolling hills and lush greenery, this elevated area offers striking views and a refreshing climate. The area combines rural tranquility with fertile lands, creating an environment ideal for both peaceful living and productive agriculture.

History[]

Montagne La Voûte was once the eighth rural section of Jacmel, historically forming part of the Grande-Rivière rural section established in 1875. Even before that reorganization, the area was a thriving agricultural zone—in 1840, the combined rural sections of Montagne La Voûte and Grande-Rivière boasted an impressive 452 well-cultivated plantations. Among these, the Boyer plantation stood out for its productivity and influence in the region.

The section’s elevated terrain not only provided fertile soils for coffee, root crops, and fruit trees but also offered sweeping views that lent both beauty and strategic importance. Over the decades, Montagne La Voûte has retained much of its rural tranquility, with farming and community life at its core. Local traditions and agricultural practices continue to shape its identity, preserving the spirit of a place that has long been an important part of Jacmel’s heritage.
