History[]

Montagne-Noire was formerly the sixth rural section of the municipality of Grande-Rivière du Nord. It was created from portions of the Gambade rural section, established in 1875. In 1839, this area was characterized by approximately 250 well-cultivated plantations.

• In January 1775, Jean François followed Toussaint Louverture to the Picot plantation, having previously defeated him at Charles Sec.
