Mapou is a district in the Southeast Department of Haiti, the seventh communal section of Belle-Anse.

About[]

Mapou is described as an incredibly remote locality. Nestled on the other side of the Southeast Haitian Mountains, Mapou is a fertile valley surrounded ny 7300′ mountain peaks. Mapou is so remote that it took three days for the Red Cross to reach it during the deadly May 2004 floods.

On May 23, 2004, Torrential rains hit southeastern Haiti, killing more than 2,500 people. Mapou, along with the communities of Bodary and Fonds-Verrettes, was one of the hardest hit areas.
