History[]
Croix-des-Missions stood as a military outpost within the district of Port-au-Prince, in the rural area of Varreux, amidst the expansive Cul-de-Sac Plain, in proximity to the Damiens and Cazeau localities, under the jurisdiction of the parish of Saint-Joseph. The locale featured a rural school and a chapel, with its patronal feast celebrated on the 14th of September. A journey by car from Port-au-Prince to Croix-des-Missions cost each traveler one gourde, as per the municipal rate. On Good Friday, throngs of people flocked from Port-au-Prince to Croix-des-Missions to witness the lively performances of loiloidi, a form of grotesque masquerade, who frolicked around the chapel. Such gatherings often resulted in mishaps.

Cazeau[]
Cazeau was originally established as a sugar plantation situated in the Cul-de-Sac plain. The plentiful water source, known as the Riviere de la Savoie or Savoy River, was utilized to irrigate and power the mill, which directed its flow into the Grande-Rivière du Cul-de-Sac. This estate was offered for sale under the legislation of March 10, 1814, with the aim of promoting agricultural development and expanding the ownership base.
