• In February 1804, when Vernet had evacuated Gonaïves on Leclerc's approach, some of the prisoners Toussaint had made in the battle of la Croix, along with the whites arrested at Gonaïves, were handed over to a detachment who took them to the Verdure habitation, located next to the village of Petite riviere de l'Artibonite.
