Meet the Municipalities[]
The arondissement has two communes:
1. Bainet💎 (135,792) Classified as the second most populated city in the Southeast Department, right after Jacmel, this charming little city has a rich history, being over three hundred and twenty-five years old. It was founded by a group of landowners and cultured businessmen who built remarkable residences that blend old and modern styles. It is a small yet elegant municipality that takes pride in its resources and the prestige of its former elite. The city was established in 1698 during colonial times, and its name, derived from French, means 'clean bay' due to the absence of reefs. Similar to Jacmel, Bainet thrived through its coffee merchants.
2. Côtes-de-Fer (49,037) In 1843, this small town was founded under the name Boucan-pêcheur because fisherman would find rest here after a hard day's work. Particularly isolated from the the rest of the Southeast Department, this town could be of great economic and tourist utility for the country in general if its material resources were taken into account. Its beaches, its rivers, and its climate are of extreme wealth and immediately attract the ordinary visitor. The people are friendly, warm and hospitable.
