Les Cayes Bay is a bay off the city of Les Cayes, in Haiti.

History[]

The ships entering the port of Les Cayes are taken by the pilot off and upwind of La Folle, a reef of the bay of Les Cayes.

• In 1794, the English vessel the Switchoold threw itself on La Folle. The crew, numbering 400 men, was taken in by squadron leader Bonnet in Les Cayes. In 1795, General Rigaud exchanged them for three French officers, Captain Jean Cécile and Lieutenants Quéné and Linstant, taken prisoner by the English and held in Jamaica.

• In 1868, the French warship Le Bouvet was also lost on La Folle.

Geography[]

The bay opens onto the South Canal opposite Île-à-Vache.

Several rivers flow into the bay of Les Cayes, including the Acul du Sud river, the Cavaillon river and the South Ravine.
