The Plain of Arcahaie is a coastal plain located at the foot of the Matthews Mountain Range, located 25 km (16 miles) northwest of the capital Port-au-Prince. The main city is Arcahaie which gave it its name. It is a large agricultural region irrigated by several rivers.

The Arcahaie Plain, an amphitheater along the sea, about 20 kilometers from the east to the west starting on the bank of the river Suselles, and 7 km and 2.50 in its breadth from north to south. The food that its inhabitants, all good sailors, carry off, by sea, in their barges, to the populations nearby. The bananas of Arcahaie are reputedly the best in Haiti. They make a lot of syrup and taffia. The mountains produce a delicious and well prepared coffee. Two steamed brick factories and one arm, now with MM. Fatton, Menos and Guignard, operate there regularly on the Bauderie and Garescher-Raboteau habitations. The main wharves are: Boucassin, Garescher, Prince, Bélanger, des Vases, Williamson, and Mont-Rouis. The port of Arcahaie is not open to foreign trade. Archaie produces coffee, cotton, campeche, mahogany wood, wax, honey, and starch. Barges are built for cabotage.
