Meet the municipalities[]
The arondissement consists of the following communes:
1. Anse-à-Veau⭐ (34,613) The founding of this settlement dates back nearly three centuries. Its economy is based on agriculture, excellent fruits of all kinds, cotton, tafia, and the finest syrup (petit-moulin) of the Republic. Trade is also substantial in L'Anse à Veau, the seat of government of this borough. The inhabitants of the town trade mainly with Miragoâne and Port-au-Prince.
2. Arnaud (20,718) This small young settlement became a commune when it was split from Anse-à-Veau by the law of April 1, 2002. A mosaic of farmland and vegetation, this is one of the smallest towns in Haiti, ranking 140th out of 145 municipalities in terms of land area.
3. L'Asile (41,073) A tiny isolated village off Route Nationale 2, this inland destination is overflowing with rivers. It's name is adopted from the French language meaning "The asylum". An asylum is a place of refuge where one finds safety and protection
4. Petit-Trou-de-Nippes (29,990) This small coastal town celebrates big when it comes to its patron saint, Our Lady of the Nativity, also known as Notre Dame. It's land area consists of plains and mountains. White sand as fine as sugar, crystalline waters with frolicking dolphins, and stunning sunrises and sunsets make this place a thrilling site to visitors.
5. Plaisance-du-Sud (27,245) This small town, nestled in the valley of a lovely plateau, consists of mountains and plains. It's most prominent feature is Morne Geffrard, a summit of roughly 690 meters (2,260 ft).
